My love of art has been
with me since I can remember. I have always been drawn to anything
to do with painting. Raised in country W.A. with what seemed to
me endless time to explore, read and paint. The information flow
being much more restricted in my early years and when in the 1962
I first visited England and Europe being able to visit the Galleries
and see famous Original paintings was awe inspiring.
My love of nature has
always been with me and being raised in a small country town I related
to the Villages of England. I love colours as the seasons change
the rich golds, violets and rusts of Summer and the blue greens
of winter. The textures found in the W.A. bush, of rocks, earth
and sky. Living in Northam for many years I explored the surrounding
Countryside and was drawn to the rocks found in that area, the texture
and colours found in them flowed into my paintings and drawings.
The dryer inland climate contrasts now where I am living near water
and in a much gentler climate. Many excursions to the Murchison
and Pilbra regions influenced the colours I used. I have painted
in most mediums and love them all especially ink and watercolour
and at present I am painting on Silk, a truly wonderful fabric and
as I paint the dyes on it is like a large landscape painting. The
vibrancy of the Dyes on silk is truly magical and each one is an
adventure of colour , the way they flow and merge with a life of
their own creating new colours as they merge, painting a 3 metre
length is like painting a huge landscape, never the same twice.
It is all a wonderful journey of discovery which continues to facinate
me.
The colour is my healing
and joy and if the works I create give this healing and joy to others
I am happy. The following quotation sums up my feelings beautifully.
“The spectrum of
the rainbow in painting and fabric design, has a quality of vibrancy
and harmony. Wearing a simple garment that is brightly patterned
of dyed is just like wearing a piece of the rainbow.” From
Linda Jackson and The Art of Fashion.
