Sonja Songhurst
Gibson
I was born in Settin, Germany, many years ago and emigrated
to Australia in 1963. I ran a successful business till 1979 when
I retired and went to Carine TAFE to do a Diploma in Fine Arts.
To my astonishment,
I discovered I was creative! I found two areas of particular interest
to me. One was jewellery and the other machine embroidery. Over
the years I have experimented with fabric dyeing techniques and
developed a variety of ways to create wonderful effects on a range
of fabrics. For the past seven years I have been very interested
in designing my own quilts and I use my dyed fabrics to express
moods and elements in a way that commercial fabrics don't.
