The Sony RECAPP Job
This is a close up of the Video/SYSCON Board. The small silvery cylindrical components are the problem. These are called Aluminium Electrolytic Capacitors. What happens is their Seal fails and the electrolite leaks out on to the board, which starts to corriode the PCB and changes the tolerance of the cap, thus causing strange faults.
With some of the Aluminium Electrolytic Capacitors removed. The tracks can sometimes lift, due to the corrosive electrolite. But if you are careful (& its NOT a Hitachi) they will come off without damaging the board.
To remove them we use a pair of surgical tweezers and a S.M.D Hot air Iron (Hako 851 rework station)
