The Villa by day

Villa du lac is nestled into the hillside abutting a National Park 1100 feet above sea level. Swiss-style in architecture, it complements Kalamunda’s alpine appearance and Orange Valley’s many rushing streams and nearby waterfalls. A 20-minute walk to the north is Kalamunda’s historic centre featuring the largest Folk Park in Western Australia  (www.kalamundahistoricalsociety.com)
1st Saturday village Fair,
3rd Saturday church bazaar and
Perth Observatory (www.wa.gov.au/perthobs) with its night tours to the galaxies, and Dreams, a fantastic gift shop (www.dreamsjewelleryandgifts.com).

A few metres from villa du lac is the entry to inviting wildflower walks, bush trails and rugged scenery above the trek down into Whistlepipe Gully – an explosion of colour in spring and a haven for natural fauna. Goannas (native lizards), wallabies, kangaroos and exotic parrots and cockatoos are year-round spectacles.

The Perth skylineThe world famous Bibbulmun Track starts a mere 15-minute walk away to the east. Perth Domestic and International airports are 20 minutes away by car.  And the bus to Perth departs from the nearby corner – a blessing for those who wish to explore Perth without hiring a car.

Pamper yourself! Take advantage of the light-weight Aussie dollar, what Kalamunda has to offer (www.naturebase.net/n2n.html), Villa du lac’s special rate for single travellers and (Hostess) Gael’s special knowledge of past pioneers and how Orange Valley was settled so long ago.
