The Serventy Memorial
The Serventy Memorial was established in 1989 as a memorial to the contribution by the Serventy family to the Club. The fund was established using a $1000 donation; and with the aim of assisting and encouraging young people in the study of natural history.
Additional capital is raised for the fund by the annual Serventy Memorial Lecture and by seeking donations.

The 2009 Serventy Memorial Lecture - Professor Lyn Beazley AO, Chief ScientistWestern Australia: a Cornucopia of Biological WondersCurrently a Professor in Zoology at the University of Western Australia, Professor Beazley is a highly sought after speaker who is interested in practically everything and she has an overwhelming aspiration to involve our future generations in the joys that science can bring through education, translation and communication. Graduating from Oxford University, she completed her doctorate at Edinburgh. She transferred to Perth in 1976 and has built up an internationally renowned research team that has focused on recovery from brain damage. Her research has also changed clinical practice in the treatment of infants at risk of pre-term delivery. Of great interest also is her research into colour vision in Australian animals, especially marsupials. A Fellow of the Institute of Biologists, Professor Beazley has served on numerous peak bodies advising State and Federal Governments, particularly in complex areas such as stem cell research. Internationally she has served on a panel assessing research performance for the Swedish Research Council and is a member of the Education Committee of the International Brain Research Organisation.
