CREATING THE WICCAN CIRCLE

First of all, set up your working area. Make sure everything you will require is there. Place candles at the East, South, West and North. Place the altar in the North and put the working tools and any other bits on it or in front of it.

At a minimum you need a chalice full of water, a plate with some salt on it, six candles (two on the altar and four around the circle), matches, some incense and your athame.

Purify yourself with running water and/or by the scourge. Prepare yourself by meditating and concentrating on what you intend to do. Leave the mundane world and it's cares behind you.

Light the incense in the thurible and the altar candles.

Consecrate the water in the Chalice by touching the water with the Athame while saying:

"I exorcise thee O Creature of Water, that thou cast out from thee all the impurities and uncleanliness of the Spirit of the World of Phantasm, in the names of those most mighty, Cernunnos and Cerridwen."

Bless the salt on the Pentacle by touching it with the Athame, saying:

"Blessings be upon this creature of salt. Let all malignancy and hindrance be cast hencefrom and all good enter herein, wherefore I bless thee and consecrate thee, in the names of those most mighty, Cernunnos and Cerridwen."

The salt and the water are mixed in the chalice

Next, take the Athame and trace the Circle, starting from the North and keeping all tools within the Circle and proceeding Deosil (clockwise). At this point you should see blue flame shooting from your Athame and burning on the traced boundary. Make sure you trace the boundary completely by overlapping slightly.

Then take the Chalice and walking Deosil, flick water from the Chalice with your fingers at the boundary while chanting either inward or aloud:

"Earth and Water where thou art cast
Let no evil power last
Not in complete accord with me
As I do will, so mote it be."

Continue chanting until you regain the North,
While saying this, visualise a moat forming and filling with water to protect the Circle. Make sure to overlap.

Replace the Chalice on the Altar.

Take the Thurible around the Circle, visualising a wall of flame protecting the Circle, chanting:

"Creature of air and fire bright
On thee this very charge I lay
No phantom in my presence stay
Hear my words addressed to thee
As I do will, so mote it be!"

Don't forget to overlap again.

Take a candle around the boundary of the circle without any words.

Move to the centre of the circle and face North with hands raised and conjure the Circle saying:

"I conjure thee O Circle of Power that thou beist a boundary between the world of men and realms of the Mighty Ones; a guardian and protection that shall preserve and contain the power that we shall raise within thee. Wherefore do I bless and consecrate thee in the names of those most mighty, Cernunnos and Cerridwen."

Visualise a bubble being formed with you at the centre.

Invoke the Watchtowers in the following manner and light each quarter candle after the Watchtower is summoned.

Starting in the East, trace the appropriate invoking pentagram in the air with the Athame saying:

`Ye lords of the watchtower of the East I do summon, stir and call thee up, to witness these rites and to guard this Circle`.

Kiss the Athame and place it on the breast.

This is repeated to the South and West. While doing this visualise a flaming pentagram appearing as you trace the line.

The Watchers of the North are summoned with the words:

"Ye lords of the watchtower of the North, in our Lady's name, I do summon, stir and call thee up to witness these rites and guard this circle."

Raise the power, by chanting the Witches Rune and dancing Deosil. Complete whatever work is at hand.

When the work at hand is completed the Circle is banished by dismissing each of the Watchtowers using the appropriate banishing pentagram and moving Widdershins (anti-clockwise) starting in the West and saying:

"Ye lords of the Watchtower of the West (South, East), I do thank you for attending and ere ye depart to your lovely realms I say Hail and Farewell."

The Mighty Ones of the North are thanked with the following words:

"Ye lords of the Watchtower of the North, in Our Lady's Name, thanks and blessing and ere ye depart to your lovely realms I say `Hail and Farewell".

Put out the candles as you go.
