Biography
Sandra Tobias graduated from Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology in 1984 and since then has spent time traveling, teaching art and producing her own paintings, prints, and sculptures.
She spent two years living in Tokyo where she was selected for the annual PARCO Urban Art exhibition (a traveling group exhibition), Absolut Vodka exhibition at Spiral Gallery and several others.
When she returned to Australia in 1995 she was selected to be Artist-In-Residence at Bundanon, the late Arthur Boyd's property "Shoalhaven", a unique place where the works were inspired by the Australian landscape. During this time she also held an exhibition at Perth Institute of Contemporary Art.
Sandra Tobias has been painting for twenty years. Her work is
represented in several Australian and International Collections both
private and public.
She was recently awarded the Artist In Residence
by the Australia-China-Council at the Taipei Artist's Village 2005.
These recent works reflect a sense of connection to the space and to the
traditional elements of Chinese life.
The somewhat frenetic pace, the clothes dangling from windows and
inanimate objects floating whimsically above the metropolis all reflect a
conversation between the traditional worlds and the contemporary
eastern spaces.
They are colourful, concerned with spatial relationships, expressive and
offer small intimate views of my perceptions. |
