Information Communication Technology

Information Communication Technology (ICT) is an important part of the learning programs at Wembley Primary School. As a school community, we understand the value of students being able to learn through using technology, and being able to manipulate technology, if they are going to be successful learners in today’s world.  ICT is embedded in all learning areas.

Financial support for the program is provided from the school budget, ICT grants and the P&C. The P&C was instrumental in establishing a computer lab in the late 1990s and has been a strong supporter of ICT at Wembley. There is a laboratory of 24 personal computers (PCs), with data projector and scanner, as well as mini labs of 6 PCs on the verandah and 6 PCs in the library. Each classroom has one PC. All PCs are networked and are updated every three years.

There is a consistent platform across the school and the up to date infrastructure and wireless network allows the whole school to engage in an enriched program, including internet access and email facilities.  Classes have access to the laboratory twice a week and can access the mini labs whenever necessary. Students engage in such activities as creating orienteering maps, online mapping skills, web quests, informational activities using multi media, creating multi media game boards, talking books, e-pals, digital portfolios, skills practise, e learning programs, etc. As early as Year 1, students use programs such as PowerPoint, Word, Inspiration and Photo Story to publish their writing and create multi media presentations.

Students from various classes produce individual digital portfolios of their work to take home at the end of the year. Photo Story will be used to produce a Memories DVD for Year 7 students.
