Wembley Early YearsStory-telling sessions are a great way to introduce everyone to their local school. Once a month, children with their parents, grandparents or carers, are invited to attend story-telling sessions at Wembley Primary School, to listen to a story and participate in learning activities. The sessions are free and families are encouraged to attend each month so that, together, parents and children can participate in planned learning activities to further their child’s development. All the sessions have different activities to encourage children to learn new skills: eg pencil and scissor use, concentration and listening, gross motor activities and being cooperative and imaginative in play. A paediatric occupational therapist is available during all the sessions to assist children and parents with activities as well as answer any questions about child development. Depending on the focus of each session, a Speech Pathologist may also be in attendance. Supporting children in the years before school greatly increases the chances of a successful transition to school and better learning outcomes for the child. During the story-telling and play sessions, parents can learn ways to develop their child's skills at home. |
