LOTE - FRENCHIn the Languages learning area, students learn to communicate effectively in languages other than English. They gain an understanding of other societies, the ability to interact with people and cultures other than their own and practical skills which they can use in future social, cultural and vocational areas. Through Languages, students are also able to further develop their skills and understandings in English and of literacy in general. (Curriculum Framework 1998) Students at Wembley Primary School have the opportunity to study French from Years 1 to 7. The principle focus areas oflanguage learning are:
Students learn to effectively communicate in French through a variety of experiences including videos, music, DVD’s, CD-Roms and French computer games, which make French classes dynamic, fun and rich in learning. Students are provided with the opportunity to speak the language and develop a cultural awareness and love for the different countries where French is spoken. A variety of cultural activities are organised throughout the year. Language Week is held to enhance and promote the learning of a language other than English. In 2007 a short French movie called “Voyage Musical” was produced and involved thirty-five students from Years Four to Seven. It was a very exciting experience for teachers, students and parents. |
