The Arts

In The Arts learning area students develop creative skills, critical appreciation and knowledge of artistic techniques and technologies in dance, drama, media, music, visual arts and combinations of arts forms. The Arts develop students’ sense of personal and cultural identity and equips them for life long involvement in and the appreciation of the arts.

The Arts comprises the four aspects of:

  • Arts Skills and Processes
  • Arts Responses
  • Arts in Society

At Wembley Primary School we have specialist teachers for music and visual arts.
External providers are employed to enhance the existing classroom programs in Drama and Dance from Years 1 to 7.    

MUSIC

Class music is based on Kodaly and Orff Developmental Programs and follows the Curriculum Framework guides.  All students learn skills including listening, singing, moving, arranging, playing, composing, improvising, interpreting and using technology.In addition students from Years 4-7 learn to read notation on keyboard, tuned percussion and recorder.

Wembley Primary School is fortunate to have a vast array of quality musical instruments, which are available to all children.

Students experience live music performances by professional musicians including the WA Symphony Orchestra, Musica Viva in Schools and music from other cultures.

Assessment involves levelling in Arts Skills and Processes and Arts Responses.

VISUAL ARTS

A vibrant and exciting specialist art program is provided for all students from Years 1-7. Students experience a range of artistic media including drawing, painting, clay, sculpture, collage, textiles and screen printing.

Students are offered opportunities to exhibittheir work within the school and in the local community. Students who display artistic flair and aptitude may be offered the opportunity to participate in the Gifted and Talented Program.
