Art 2000


This page is full of photographs of children's art works so is therefore very graphic intensive.  Please be patient while their works of art load up.

The year 2000 was a very creative year at Westfield Park Primary School.  We hope you enjoy the children's work.

Comments: Children drew an Australian animal then traced it, flipped and turned it.  We went over it in crayon, then washed over it with water colour.

Comments: Zach drew a numbat and coloured with oil pastels then cut out the animal to place on the class mural of Bushlands.

Comments: The class painted a background on white paper and then placed various animal cutouts, made with oil pastels on paper, to depict a bushland scene.

Title: Underwater Coral

Medium: Edicol food dye, card
Comments: Kristy dropped food dye onto card then, using a straw, blew the blobs until they spread in a coral-like fashion.  Washed over the top with edicol dye which gave the smudged appearance.

Comments: Ashlea and Erin used various materials to construct an underwater scene, giving a 3D appearance.

Title: Seashell Sketch

Medium: Lead and white pencils on black paper
Comments: Holly studied various shells.  After choosing one, she sketched it in lead pencil, went over it in white pencil and framed her work.

Comments: Martin coloured a piece of card in coloured crayon.  He then covered it all in black oil pastel, then scratched a picture using a popstick.

Title: Colourful Mask

Medium: Crayon and cardboard
Comments: "We folded the cardboard in half and drew a pattern on it.  We cut the shapes out and drew a mouth, eyes and nose.  We cut them out too, We drew lines for the pattern and coloured it.  The slits and stapling was last.  I like to do colourful wavy lines."

Title: Buildings For Sale

Medium: Newspaper, water washed paper and glue
Comments: "First I did the coat of green and blue water wash.  I sorted out the shapes with a ruler, scissors and newspaper.  I sorted it on the painted paper then I glued it on.  The 'For Sale' sign made me think of the buildings."

Comments: "We were asked to draw the person sitting opposite us.  I started to draw the face and moved to neck and t-shirt.  I finished the face.  The plaits were last.  I coloured the picture.  We needed to be exact."

Comments: "I chose a few colours to outline the picture and then I put in the bold colour then the shaded colours."

Comments: Children studied the picture without knowing its title.  Each selected their own title. 
The development of this piece of work was very structured. 
The children looked at the proportions of sky, river and land and divided the page into three.  Then, section by section, they  studied the placement of stars, buildings, reflections, boats and added them to their picture. 
Colours were restricted to brown, blue, yellow and purple.  Black edicol dye was used as a wash.

Title: 'Momotaro Returns'

Comments: We read Japanese Folk Tales and we liked Momotaro.  My picture shows when Momotaro returned home in his boat with all the gold and jewels that the ogres had stolen.

Title: 'Momotaro The Peach Boy'

Comments: We liked reading Momotaro.  In this Japanese Folk Tale Momotaro jumped out of the peach tree and the old couple finally had a son.  They loved him very much.

Comments: Tiddalik is one of our favourite Dreamtime stories.  He is a giant frog who is very thirsty and drinks up all the water in the world.

Use a wax crayon to colour in and outline the parts of the picture they wanted to stand out. 
Then wish a sponge and water paint, paint over the whole picture.

Comments: We put blobs of paint on our paper and folded it in half.  Then we pressed the paper with our hands starting from the fold.  Last we cut out the butterfly shape.
