Title: Bottles

Medium: Black pen and Paint
Comments: Children had to lay bottles side by side across the paper then draw around the tops of bottles. 
Move bottles down the page but change the order. Use several shades of blue to paint the bottle pattern.

Comments: Students, after discussing and listening to Aboriginal tales, utilised primary and secondary colours to produce dot paintings that depict a simple story.

Title: Tutankahman Masks

Medium: Newspaper, flour and water glue, gold, blue and black paint 
Comments: We made the frame and then paper mached it. Then we spray painted it with gold and painted the blue and the black over the gold paint.

Title: Rainbow Fish

Medium: Food colouring, chalk, acrylic Paint
Comments: Using a photocopy of a Markus Pfister illustration, it was cut into quarters.  Working in groups of four, students had to enlarge their quarto to A4 size. Through consultation with group members they had to ensure that each drawing connected appropriately. When the four quarters were completed the background was shaded using food colouring dye.  Chalk or paint was used to transform the drawing into life.  Students again consulted each other to ensure continuity throughout the piece of art.

Comments: Escher type tesselations integrates maths and art learning areas. In order to successfully tesselate the shape must be reflected. Each shape commenced as a single square of card.

Title: Egyptian Cats

Comments: Integrates with Term One theme of Ancient Egypt. Model of sacred cat Bast or Bastet. Cats were important in their roles of keeping rodent populations down, hunting and company.

Comments: Card was ripped to represent sand. Tracing paper laid over top. Pyramids of different sizes cut and folded to create 3D effect.

Title: Xray art - Northern Territory

Medium: Pastels, black crayon and nails to etch
Comments: In line with our Australian theme we have spent time looking at Aboriginal Art and in particular X-ray art which can be found in rock sites in the Northern Territory.  We looked at the techniques of lines, dots and cross hatching used.  We also tried to use traditional colours. To create these we used an etching technique using pastels, black crayon and nails to etch.

Title: Walls of China

Comments: We have spent time doing some artist studies.  In line with the Year of the Outback we have looked at the works of artists such as Russell Drysdale and Sydney Nolan.  After studying Russell Drysdale's Walls of China picture we then had a go at recreating this piece using a variety of materials and taking colour, line, objects and position into consideration.

Title: The Faces of Clowns

Medium: Paint, paper, feathers, pompoms etc.
Comments: In our focus on Circus Life this term, the students in the ESU have created a face of a clown. The focus was to draw big and creative expressioned faced to portray a happy and lively clown. Students created a collage with the materials to give their clowns a 3D effect. The students' own handprints were added to the finished picture giving the appearance of a laughing, happy clown.

Title: My Favourite Place

Medium: cottonwool balls, shells, cardboard, paper plate, paint, pompoms, pipecleaners etc.
Comments: We had to put all the bits together to make it look like our favourite place. We had to figure out where to put it first and it was our special place.
My special place is the pool in Klmscott.  I love going down the slide. It goes really fast. It is fun.  You have to have a mat. You can go on your back. It is cool!  There is a fast one and a medium one and there's a slow one. I went on the fast one nd that is for big kids like me. Medium kids go on the medium one and the slow one is for little kids.
