We have had a great year finding out about all sorts of things in a fun and interesting way - like living and working in an ancient tomb and in a cold desert, or having an 'outta sight' time on camp.

Ancient Egypt

We did projects on Ancient Egypt in Term One.

We had an open house where parents and students looked at our displays.
Some of us had models as well. The students had a topic to study.
Some of these topics were Sphinx, Cleopatra, gods and goddesses, ancient artefacts, their clothing, make-up, perfume etc.

Our classroom was turned into a Pharoah's tomb. The scenery was spectacular.  Some of the children dressed in ancient clothes.  We made some food and served it to the visitors and teachers telling them it was from the ancient times.  Most of them loved it.

Although there were a lot of decorations it only lasted for one day.  Many classes came to visit from years 1-7.  Did you know that the Ancient Egyptians mummified their pharoahs hoping that they would live in the next life?  These days scientists realise that the now disintegrated bodies have no chance of coming back to life, so they dig up the bones and left over pieces to try and find the Ancient Egyptians' way of life.  We have learnt a lot from the Ancient Egyptians and now our way of life is easier.
The day was very enjoyable and successful.  We are sure everyone enjoyed themselves and learned a lot.

Camp Kal

 Camp Spotlights

Things that happened at camp and on the way . . . .

  • The camp was held from June 28th to July 2nd.
  • We were staying at the Coolgardie Ghost Inn.
  • We stopped at Cunderdin, Merredin and Southern Cross.
  • The trip took eight hours.
  • Nearly everyone slept some of the way especially Sarah and Janice.
  • Most of the people swapped seats, for instance Callie and Melissa.
  • Jessica O, a former student, came with everyone on the camp.  She lives in Darwin!
  • We had hot chocolate everymorning and night for breakfast and supper.
  • Every morning, every dorm had to do
  • a rhyme or skit!
  • Every night the girls were very noisy!!
  • One of the nights, Jared broke his bed.
  • On the 3 degree morning, Mathew woke up
  • to find that he looked like a hedgehog.
  • Every morning except Thursday and Friday,
  • we did morning fitness.
  • Mrs Donald KISSED everyone goodnight!
  • (The boys weren't that embarrassed!)
  • The park we attended the most was Hammond Park. We went there Tuesday and Thursday. It was like a luxury park! There was ponds, play equipment, animals like kangaroos and emus and heaps more!
  • On the Thursday, we went to the Coolgardie Camel Farm.  The camels names were Phillipe, BoJo, Marcus and Sebastian.
  • Oshani couldn't wait to get off her camel!
  • Also on the Thursday, we went to the Coolgardie Cemetery.  Some of the graves

  • didn't have headstones or markers so people stepped on people's graves.  People tried to avoid these kinds of graves (the ones without headstones or markers) but no one could!
  • On the Tuesday, everyone went shopping in

  • the town of Kalgoorlie.  We went to a tourist store and Thingz!
  • We went to the Super Pit.  It is one of the biggest open-cut mining sites in the world!

  • We went panning for gold at the Hannan's North Tourist Mine.  Lots of people found gold!

  •
  • On the Thursday night, we had our concert.
  • The acts contained were:
  • The 3/4 Monty
  • Cops and Robbers play
  • The Britney Spears song 'Baby One more Time'
  • Some old songs from movies
  • The Winnie-The-Pooh song
  • Awkward modelling ("drunk" people, "posh" people and more)
  • Teacher's Act
  • The National Anthem with socks.

  •
  • We had a disco afterwards.  Carly was definitely the one who boogied down the most!
  • The next morning, everyone got ready to headed off for home.

    Antarctica

Antarctica is the coldest continent in the world.  This term, we have researched all about Antarctica. We have also learnt about the wildlife living in Antarctica. All the wildlife there have to cope with the climate which is freezing.
One of the types of animals there is the Emperor Penguin. The Emperor Penguins are the tallest penguins in Antarctica. They stand at approximately 112cm. tall. The Emperor Penguin's colours are black, white, orange, yellow and a pinkish colour on the beak.

There used to be bigger penguins a long time ago but they are extinct now.

Emperor penguins only have one egg a year. The male looks after the egg for two months while the female is hunting for food for herself.

The Leopard seal is a carnivore.  It eats fish and penguins. It is very intelligent and a fast swimmer. They are very good at protecting their chosen territory. They used to be hunted for their skin and fur!

Many scientists have explored Antarctica and they say Antarctica is so cold that you have to climb into the freezer with the ice cream to keep warm!!!  Some people say that there are Eskimoes (Inuit) in Antarctica, but they are only in the Arctic!
