Welcome to Room Two!

We have 20 children in our room.  We are Year one and Year two children.
Seven of the children are Year Twos and thirteen are Year Ones.  Our teacher, Mrs Brady, has a nice voice because she speaks softly to us.  She also gives us tickets when we are good.  Once a week the one that has the most tickets gets a lucky dip.

In Our Room
We sit quietly on our mat.  Our mat has lots of teddy bears and stars on it.  When we are on the mat we listen to stories.  We also listen to what we have to do on the mat. Sometimes we work in a group on the mat doing maths.  Sometimes we read our book on the mat.

When we are working at our desks we have to work quietly because we sometimes get points or ticks for our group.  Our groups are called: Kangaroos, Platypus and Frill-Necked Lizards.
Our favourite work is reading and making things.

Mothers' Day
On Sunday the 9th of May it is Mothers' Day.  We are all making our Mum's a bag.  It is made out of white, shiny card.  We are decorating it with punched out butterflies and hearts in bright coloured paper.  We are also using paper doileys, coloured paper ribbon and bits of coloured paper.  We had to use staples, glue and sticky tape to make the bags.

Have a look at our finished Mothers' Day bags.

Under the Sea

Last term we learned about what is under the sea. We found out that fish live under the sea.  Other things that live under the sea are jelly fish, sharks, starfish, octopus, whales, clown fish like Nemo, blue fish like Dorie, seaweed, coral and some sea snails.  We watched the video called "Finding Nemo".  We drew pictures of what it looks like under the sea.
We found out that sharks eat other fish!  Whales eat krill's which are tiny little creatures.  Fish swim around under the boats and in and out of the seaweed.  Clown fish live in anemones.  Anemones live on coral reefs.  They are called reefs because they are near the seashore where the sand gets higher.

Look at our pictures.

Maths
We do maths every day at school.  We are learning to count as far as we can.  Some of us can count to more than 100.  A lot of us can count up to 29.  When we are learning about maths we use a computer sometimes.  Other times we use counters, blocks, squares, counting teddies, lock-ons and shapes.
We use little blocks to help us count up to a number.  We use the counters to help us add and take away and learn about groups.  We can also use our fingers to help us.  We the teddy bears for sorting into groups and for sizes and colours.
We use the shapes to make pictures and to learn about the names of shapes, like triangles, squares, rectangles, circles and to make spheres.
We use the lock-ons to make towers of tens or twenties.  We can use the lock-ons to make patterns.
Sometimes we do takeaways, adding and counting on paper.

Australian Animals
This term we are learning about Australian animals.  We will be writing about what they look like, where they live, what they do and what they eat.
We will find out about the animals by reading lots of information books.  We might find some information on a website.
Some Australian animals are koalas, kangaroos, platypuses, frill-necked lizards, dingoes, galahs, kookaburras, echidnas, numbats and quokkas.
We have learned that koalas eat leaves from a few gum trees.  They climb trees and they sleep most of the time in the tree. Baby koalas ride on the mum's back.
Koalas and kangaroos have pouches so that makes them marsupials!  Baby koalas and baby kangaroos are both called joeys.   Kangaroo babies are much, much smaller than human babies.
