We are Year One children
at Westfield Park Primary School. Our classroom is called Room Two. We
have more boys in our class than girls. We have 11 boys and 8 girls.
We have a nice teacher who reads us stories - we love Hairy Maclary stories
by Lynley Dodd.
MUSIC
On Fridays we go to Music.
The Music room is in Room 11 in another building. Our Music teacher
is Mrs Mathie. If we are really good and get 5 stamps she lets us
have a lucky dip. We might even get a chocolate in the lucky dip.
We get to sing songs.
Our favourite songs are:
-
Aram, Sam Sam
-
Dr. Knicker Bocker
We like music games. We
play tapping sticks, bells, drums, shakers, rattles, crackers, tambourine
and triangles. We play musical trains - when Mrs Mathie or someone who
is the train driver taps us on our head the person stands up and goes to
the back of the train line. Then we go choo, choo, whoo, whoo and
we move around in a circle.
LIBRARY
On Fridays we go to the school library.
We pick books to read. Most of the time we watch videos that Mrs
Piper puts on for us. The videos are stories about Peter Pan, The
Three Little Pigs, Rosie Went for a Walk and Robin Hood.
We do drawings about story books that we
have read. We do writing about the books that Mrs Piper reads to
us.
Our favourite books from the library are
about dinosaurs, butterflies, water and Santa. We also like
books about fish. Some books are Fiction and some are Non-Fiction. Fiction
books are not true and non-fiction books are true!
When we are in the library we have to sit
down quietly and listen to the teacher. We have to do this in EVERY
lesson not just in the Library.
We get coloured rulers to put in the place
where the book belongs then if we don't borrow the book we can find where
to put it back.
TECHNOLOGY
In our class we are learning about how to
make bridges. We are using paper and we are trying to make it strong.
We have used our hands to try folding, twistin and, rolling to find out
how to make it strong enough to make a bridge that our wooden truck can
go over. We are still working out ways to build our bridge.
We had to use our hands, pieces of newspaper, a little bit of sticky tape
and our brains.
We had to find out about bridges by looking
at web sites that showed different types of bridges from all around the
world.
Some of the different bridges are:
-
Covered in bridges made of wood
-
Steel bridges that open up like a castle draw
bridge
-
Bridges that open like double doors on their
backs
-
rope suspension bridges
-
bridges that open like a tap handle so that
boats can go each side
-
Brick bridges with arches
-
Floating bridges made by the soldiers
-
Tree trunk bridges that you walk across
-
Rock bridges that you have to step on each rock
to get across
FRENCH
On Wednesday, after recess, we go to the
French room to learn French. We draw pictures about French books.
We learn French words like - "How are you
feeling?" ("Comment ca va?"), "Please" ("Sils vous plaits"), the cat (le
chat), a mouse (la souris ), the farmer (le fermier), the dog (le chien),
a sheep (le mouton) and a cow (le vache).
We sing French songs like "Madame L'Araignee"
(Mrs Spider) and we sometimes play games outside like 'The Cat and Mouse'
("Le chat et la souris").
