Rooms 3 and 4 are separate classrooms but we work as a group in the classroom most of the time. We open the sliding doors and our two rooms become one great big room. When we go to Library, Music, Sport and French we are not together. We are all year two children mostly aged six or seven. We have great teachers! We have Mrs Marshall and Mrs Bosman. We have lots of other people help us in our classroom. Mrs Piper comes in to do special maths with us. When she comes in to our room we have lots of fun. Mrs Rapson and Mrs Woodhams come in to help us learn. Sometimes we have people from Universities come when they are learning to be teachers. Some children's parents come in to help us with different lessons like science, maths and writing.
SPORT MUSIC SCIENCE MATHS
SPORT
On Tuesdays we go to the oval to do sport. We do lots of running, play games and we have lots of fun. Sometimes we watch a video which shows us how to run, hop or jump properly. After we have watched the video we go outside to practice what we have seen. Sometimes Mrs Bosman takes pictures of us running so we can see if we are doing the right running.
We like playing Dodge Ball and Duck, Duck, Goose. To play Dodgeball you have to:
- Mrs Marshall puts cones out in a square and if you go out of the square you are out of the game.
- We have to all be inside the square.
- Mrs Marshall has the ball and she rolls it along the ground and tries to get the ball to touch someone.
- If the ball touches a person that person gets to roll the ball from the side.
- As more people get touched by the ball they all go to the sides to roll the ball into the square.
- The square gets smaller and smaller until there is only one person left.
- That person wins!
MUSIC
On Thursday we go to music. Mrs Mathie is our teacher. We play instruments like drums, bells, shakers, sticks, cymbals, triangles, tambourines and recorder.
Our favourite instrument is the drum. We only use the little drum that sits on the floor and we play it with sticks or our hands.
The drum goes boom, boom, boom.
The shaker sounds like little stones falling from the sky to the ground.
We LOVE loud music.
Marching is super great!
Some of us like Baa, Baa, Black sheep; Humpty Dumpty; Incy Wincy Spider; Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star and other Nursery Rhymes.
SCIENCE
On Tuesday afternoon we do science. Some of our Mums and Dads come to our room to help us. Some things we have done in science are:
- rubbed a nail between our hands, then rubbed the nail on a tile. We found the nail was hot. Then we rubbed the nail on sandpaper. The nail got hotter and hotter.
- we rubbed a metal washer on the tile and it was cold. The washer was still cold when we rubbed it on sandpaper.
- These two activities were showing us hot and cold.
- We had to drop different things behind a board and listen to the sound it made to guess what it was. Some things we dropped were wooden blocks, pencils and pencil cases.
MATHS
We do maths every day. Some days Mrs Piper comes to help us. We do things to do with counting and measuring.
Some activities include tracing around animal shapes and then put counters inside the shape and see how many it takes to fill the whole area. Then we have to write down the answer. We then put counters around the outside of the shape to find how many counters for the perimeter.
Another activity was when we used a measuring wheel. We had to start at the classroom door and go to the library going different ways each time. We had to roll the wheel while we walked and see how far it was to the library. Each time we walked a metre the measure wheel clicked so we knew it was a metre. Then we had to count how many metres each path was and write it down. Then we had to find out which pathway was the longest.
One day we drew pictures of ourselves and worked with a partner. We had to use a tape measure to measure parts of our body. On the picture we had to draw a circle if we were measuring around a part, or draw an arrow up and down if we were measuring the length of a part of our body.It was lots of fun doing all the activities.
