Edward Knowsley

Edward Knowsley was the son of Ellen Knowsley.  Edward was baptised on the 13 March 1848 at Pickering, Yorkshire.  It is not known who his father was.

 

It is unknown where Ellen and Edward were in 1851 as they do not appear on any census record.

 

Ellen Knowsley died on 13 March 1853 in Bridlington, Yorkshire, she is buried in the Parish Cemetery in Bridlington.

 

In 1861 Edward Knowsley is living at 'Over the Clough', Bridlington - boarding with the Milner family.  He is listed as a 13 year old errand boy.

 

Edward married Elizabeth Gray in 1869 in Bridlington, Yorkshire.  Their first child Walter was born on 11 October 1870, and their second child Alfred was born in 1873, both in Bridlington.

 

In 1871 Edward, Elizabeth and Walter are living at 14 Rope Walk, Bridlington.  Edward is listed as a 23 year old greengrocer, Elizabeth is 39 years old, and Walter is 5 months old.

 

By 1881 the family are living at 3 Garrison Street, Bridlington.  Edward is now listed as a general dealer, Elizabeth is a home maker, and both the boys are scholars.

 

The 1891 Census shows the family still living at 3 Garrison Street, Bridlington.  Edward is now a fruiterer shop keeper and Elizabeth is a home maker.  Both their sons are market gardeners.  Edward is listed as working on his 'own account' so it appears he had a green grocers store.

 

South Back Lane, Bridlington became the family home by 1901.  Edward still has his own store, and his sons are still market gardeners.  Elizabeth is now 60 years old and at home.

 

Edward Knowsley of Southfield House, Bridlington, Yorkshire died on the 27 November 1910.  He provided well for his wife Elizabeth leaving her in excess of £1200 pounds.

 

Elizabeth Knowsley is living at Southfield House, Bridlington in 1911.  She is living on her own aged 68 years old.  She lived there for another three years, passing away in 1914.  No Will has been found.
