Florence Leonora Knowsley

born 1867

Kingston upon Hull, Yorkshire, England

Florence Leonora Knowsley was the daughter of Robert Knowsley and Eliza Anne Knight and she was baptised on 5 June 1867 in Hull, Yorkshire.

Florence did not marry, and she had no children.

In 1871, aged four years, Florence is living at 179 Regent Street, Holy Trinity, Kingston upon Hull with her parents and siblings Mary and Ann.

By 1881 the family had moved to 86 Regent Street where Florence is now listed as a scholar.  Her father Robert is a druggists assistant.

Florence's father Robert died in May 1881 and the remaining family had moved to 72 Walmsley Street, Sculcoates, Kingston upon Hull by 1891.  Her mother Eliza is listed as 'living on own means' so Robert must have left the family quite well off.  Florence and her sister Mary are living with their mother, they have no occupations listed.

By 1901 Eliza and her daughter Florence have moved to Banwell, Somerset which is Eliza's home town.  They are both living on their own means.  They are still at that address in 1911.

Florence's mother Eliza died in 1913 in Banwell, Somerset and was buried in the St Andrew Churchyard Cemetery on the 24 June.

On the 10 September 1914, Florence set sail on the ship SS Maurelania from Liverpool bound for Ellis Island, New York arriving on 25 September 1914.  She was to visit with her sister Annie Henrietta Gertrude Murray who was resident of Bridgeport Connecticut.  Florence left New York on the ship Campania arriving in Liverpool, England on 15 October 1914.

Nothing more is known of the remainder of Florence's life.  She eventually returned to Banwell, Somerset where she died in 1931 and was buried in the Anglican section of St Andrew Churchyard Cemetery on the 10th September.
