Dear Mr. Williams
On behalf of the Federal Government, I would like to congratulate you on the award of the National Service 1951-1972 Medal. It is both a physical reminder of your service to the Nation and an enduring remembrance of the heartfelt appreciation of the Government and your fellow Australians for that valuable service fifty years ago in 1953.
The National Service Medal 1951 - 1972 commemorates the 50th.anniversary of the introduction of post-World War 11 National Service. Today, the two periods of post-World War 11 national service are remembered as significant and valued events in Australia's history and development as a nation. Indeed during the twenty one year period that covered the two schemes, 187 national servicemen made the ultimate sacrifice for their country, while approximately 1500 were wounded during their service.
I would like to use this opportunity to encourage you to contact your local Federal Member or State Senator to arrange for the formal presentation of your medal. Presentation of the medal by a representative of the Government will provide an appropriate occasion for your family, friends, and local community to express their gratitude for the service rendered by National Servicemen.
Yours sincerely
Mal Brough MP
