“Modern Ideas with Traditional Values”

Our self defence training combines the tried and true techniques from classical styles such as Karate, Kung Fu and Ju Jutsu with the modern innovations of Boxing, Kick Boxing and Submission Grappling. Although we are moving with the times, we haven’t forgotten where we came from. The adherence to traditional values such as Self Discipline, Courage, Loyalty, Honour and Integrity make your training a well rounded life enhancing experience. The training in these classes involves body conditioning, to develop mental and physical strength and both choreographed and spontaneous partner drills, to explore and enhance your grasp of the styles self defence principles.

“Founders of Australian Kick Boxing”

Our organisation was the first group to import and promote Thai Boxing in Australia and the founder of Zen Do Kai, Bob Jones, is known as the father of Australian Kick Boxing. We were the first and we still set the standard for training principles and development country wide. Many of our students here in the West hold National and International titles so the evidence of our standards speak for themselves. Dean Woodhams (your chief instructor) is widely recognised as Western Australia's senior kickboxing official. The training in this class involves padwork to develop striking power and focus. Sparring drills to develop attack and defence strategies and finally, touch contact sparring to enhance your mobility, timing and reflexes.

“Weapons are not just for Self Defence”

You don’t often hear of people being attacked with six foot poles, and I haven’t seen anyone wandering the streets with a Samurai sword for ages. But that’s not the point. Studying weaponry adds many benefits to your training. Understanding the mechanics and strategies involved in weaponry helps you to prepare for the unlikely, yet possible, event that you are attacked by someone wielding a weapon. The ZenDoKai Freestyle curriculum specifically covers Bojutsu (long staff), Arnis (double sticks and knives) and Katana (long sword). Many of the classical Martial Arts weapons are covered in the advanced classes as well. Not only is the study of weapons interesting and enjoyable it adds a higher level of dexterity and mental focus that translates back as a huge bonus to your self defence training.

“Giving your Kids a KickStart in Life”

One thing that people have forgotten is that Life is a “Team Sport” Our program teaches your kids to Work With and “LOOK AFTER” one another. Our goal is to not only teach your child self defence skills, but also teach them how to avoid conflict altogether.

HOW? A good attitude and great life skills. THAT'S HOW!!

REASONS TO ENROLL YOUR CHILD IN MARTIAL ARTS

Physical Fitness Childhood obesity rates are climbing, and more children are spending time in front of the television, playing video games and using a computer. Even among more active children, martial arts is a very good source of exercise. Martial arts can help improve fitness, flexibility, balance, strength and overall energy levels.

Life Skills Including discipline, self control, patience, confidence and courage. These classes and this motivation is to reinforce what you already teach at home and can be a valuable tool for driving home your own family values.

Self Defense This is the most obvious reason for enrolling a child in martial arts. The focus of a good class, while still teaching self defense, should be on conflict resolution, personal responsibility and avoidance. Attending a good martial arts class would benefit both the bully, by teaching to respect others, and the bullied, by teaching how to calm a situation or defend oneself if need be.

Behavior Issues Many parents turn to the martial arts when their children misbehave. These parents are looking for help to improve the attention span, respect, demeanor and self control. If the instructor has a good method of communicating with the child, is firm but friendly, and most importantly, is consistent, then the child can really get a lot of out martial arts training.

Safe, after school activity Many parents are seeking a safe and wholesome activity for their child. These parents don't want their child to sit at home all evening. They want them to get involved in something that makes them set and follow through on goals. A good martial arts school can become a second home. The relationships built between classmates and with an instructor can last a lifetime and have a huge positive impact on a child's life.

“One on One Intro Classes”

This is a great way to get a foot in the door. If jumping straight into a class is a little daunting, we can schedule for you a private introduction course. We fix a time that suits you, then get you in for two private, half hour sessions. During these sessions we work on some of the skills that you will need and we answer any questions that you may have. Usually you will be working with the chief instructor himself so you know you’ll be getting the best of attention. Then with your new found skills and confidence, you will participate in a full one hour class. Only then will we sit you down and ask you if this is the type of training that you are looking for.

“High School Classes”

In the early 90’s we were asked to run a physical recreation class at an eastern suburbs high school. Since then the program has expanded to include 14 high schools across the metropolitan area. As a “self defense” course, an “introduction to martial arts” or simply a “fitness regime” the program has received wide acceptance as a valuable addition to the schools Physical Education programs. If you think that your Phys Ed program or staff development program could do with a boost then give us a call and we can arrange a free trial session for your students and staff.
